Webcam HP Computer Anti Blacks accused

Washington – Problem racism is still sensitive in the United States. This also may encourage the world’s largest computer manufacturer, Hewlett Packard (HP) to investigate allegations that the software on the computer anti-black production.


Reported by Bloomberg and quoted on Tuesday (22/12/2009), a black customer claims, face tracking software embedded in HP’s computer webcam can record the movements of his face very well, and even appeared often blurred.

“I thought my black leather compromising the ability of computers to follow my movements,” said a consumer who call themselves ‘Black Daisy’. Desi video posted on YouTube to prove this claim.

In the video, look if the webcam computer can not follow the movement of Desi’s face well, though the software is designed for that. And when recording a female partner’s face is white, the computer doing pretty perfect.

HP also stated that the software was checking the video chat devoted to it. Software designed to find the user’s face by measuring the contrast. According to HP, interference may occur because the camera had difficulty detecting the contrast in less light conditions.

“HP got the information there is a potential problem in facial tracking software in the system. We deal with this matter seriously and reviewed them with our partners,” said Mark Budgell, a spokesman for HP.


While the video claims of racism in HP laptop posted on YouTube is now quite popular. Recorded, the number of access had almost reached 100 thousand.
