Microsoft

The Microsoft XBOX 360 game console has a feature that allows it to connect to the internet to download videos or game demos or to connect to other consoles so that multiple people in different areas can play the same game.
If you have a local area network setup in your home through a wireless router, you can use a special adapter available from Microsoft to wirelessly connect to the internet.

Instructions

  1. Step 1

Check the name of your wireless network by navigating through the “Start” menu on your main computer and then accessing the Control Panel. Click on “Network Center” and then write the name down, as you will need to enter it into the XBOX 360 console later.

  2. Step 2

Attach the wireless network adapter to the USB port on the back of the console.

  3. Step 3

Press the silver “X” icon on the middle of your XBOX 360 controller to bring up the main menu. Go to the “Settings” tab and then choose the “System Settings” option. Choose the “Network Settings” link and then go to “Edit Settings.” Type in the network name that you wrote down earlier in the “SSID” field.

  4. Step 4

Go to the “Network Mode” option and set it to “Infrastructure.”

  5. Step 5

Save the changes and then turn the XBOX 360 console off and back on to finish the setup.

Tips & Warnings

The wireless network adapter for the XBOX is compatible with the 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g wireless network standards.
Besides being able to connect to XBOX Live and download videos, you can also access any of the computers on your network and stream any Windows Media Player music files directly to the console.
