There are many cheap iphone which sold in the market. I bought a cheap iphone on ebay.com a few months ago. But this cheap iphone did not allow you to insert any SIM card. It only can used for fixed SIM card from the original manufacture like AT&T, Cingular, etc. To insert your sim card, you need to unlock and jail break this iphone first. Here are some tips and instruction to unlock and jailbreak your iphone.
You have to admit -- the iPhone is one pretty amazing phone. With its stylish touch screen, built in mp3 player, integrated Google maps, and more applications than you could ever dream of… it’s darn near perfect.
Except, of course, you gotta have AT&T Wireless.
Well, thanks to the intelligent guys over at the Dev Team, there is a solution. They have created a program called QuickPwn that will allow anyone -- on any network -- to use the iPhone.
QuickPwn will run on both Windows and Mac, and is pretty much fool-proof. And most importantly, they have screens that guide you through the process, which makes having a heart attack much less likely!

First, you need to decide if you want to simply “jailbreak” your phone, or if you want to “unlock” it as well. Jailbreaking is when you already have AT&T, and don’t plan on using your iPhone on any other network (like T-Mobile, for example). Jailbreaking will allow you to use Cydia and Installer to add new and exciting apps and features to your iPhone. They are both similar the App Store, but they allow you to add 3rd party applications to your phone that are unavailable elsewhere. These applications are those that either Apple hasn’t approved of yet, or ones that didn’t meet approval. One of my favorites, for example, lets you use the iPhone as a video camera to record home movies. Unlocking is what you will need to do if you plan on using the iPhone on any other network besides AT&T.
Alright, now that you are familiar with the terminology, its time to get the software. QuickPwn is a free program, which can be found quite easily by doing a simple search online. A trusted source is also linked below.
Before you actually run the program, make sure to plug in your iPhone and sync it with iTunes. The iPhone should be running the most recent firmware, so if it’s not, perform this upgrade now. Most importantly, though, make sure iTunes performs a backup. This is vital, because it will reinstall all your phone numbers, emails, and music back to the phone once the jailbreak/unlock is complete. Don’t skip this step, unless you REALLY like to re-enter phone numbers …. Really.
Back to QuickPwn. Launch the program, making sure you have your iPhone on and plugged in via usb. Press the big blue arrow button to continue.
Next, QuickPwn will search for the firmware file on your computer. It should be able to find it on its own, so just press the blue button to continue.
If you are unlocking as well, QuickPwn will ask you to locate two “bootloaders”. A bootloader is a file which basically starts the operating system, and bypasses the phone from making sure you are on the AT&T network. You will need to download both bootloaders (bl39.bin and bl46.bin) from the internet. There are numerous sources, but the one I trust in particular linked below. Direct Quickpwn to the bootloader files you just downloaded, and press the blue arrow button to continue.
Next, QuickPwn will ask you if you want to install Cydia, Installer or to replace boot logos. Like I mentioned before, both Cydia and Installer are like App Store applications. Cydia has many, many more programs, and because of its popularity, I would recommend just installing it. If you would like to change how the iPhone looks when it turns on and off, you can also choose to replace the boot logos. This will make it so instead of seeing the apple logo, you will see in pineapple instead. I honestly don’t think this is necessary, either, but to each his own… Once done, press the blue button.
Ok, this is when it gets exciting. In the next few steps, you are going to need to do some button pressing! I would recommend reading this section twice, as the procedures are highly time-sensitive.
QuickPwn will warn you to make sure your iPhone is plugged into the usb. Click the blue button to say “yes it is!”
This is the tricky step. And not because its hard -- its just so time-sensitive! In order for QuickPwn to begin its magic, the iPhone has to be in “Recovery Mode”. To achieve this, you are going to have to press some buttons! Don’t worry though, QuickPwn will highlight each step, and even count the seconds for you!
First, you will hold down the HOME button for 5 seconds (the home button is the circular one on the face of the phone). Once that 5 seconds has passed, you will continue to hold the HOME button down, as well as the POWER button for 10 seconds. The power button is the one on the top of the phone, that you (duh) use to power the phone on and off with. After those 10 seconds go by, keep holding the HOME button down, but release the POWER button. Keep holding the HOME button down until QuickPwn tells you that the process has begun.
Now, sit back, and try not to have a heart attack. QuickPwn will write the modified files to your iPhone, and for the most part, will keep you informed of what it’s doing. You might see some random lines of code on the screen of your iPhone, but it is nothing to be scared of.
Once complete, your iPhone will reboot and then be recognized by iTunes.
When asked if you want to set this up as a new phone, or restore from a backup, select the backup option. This will allow you to choose the restore point we just made before starting this whole process.
The restore process can take a while, so don’t sweat it. This is especially true if you had a ton of music and applications on your iPhone. It took about an hour or so for it to complete mine.
Once that is complete, simply enjoy your new phone!
Even if Apple releases a new firmware version for your phone and you are prompted to install it via iTunes later on, doing so will undo your jailbreak and unlock. If you want to upgrade to that firmware, you need to wait until the Dev Team makes a new copy of QuickPwn.
I will also be writing an article on the best Cydia applications, so be on the lookout for it!
Tampering with the iPhone firmware should be done with caution, as it will void out the phone’s warranty.
Proceed at your own risk -- the writer of this article cannot be held responsible for any damages caused to your iPhone.
